What is an Advanced Practitioner?

‘Advanced Practitioner’ is the official recognition by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) of a veterinary surgeon’s particular knowledge and skills in a designated field of veterinary practice.

Becoming an AVP requires a postgraduate certificate level qualification (Masters level 7), and to demonstrate knowledge and experience in a particular area of veterinary practice beyond their initial primary veterinary degree.

It also requires keeping up to date with a minimum of 250 hours continuing professional development (CPD) over a 5 year period.
