Advanced Services

At Magnolia House Veterinary Clinic we pride ourselves on being a well-rounded full service GP practice. Our vets also have several further qualification and unique skills, which allows us to provide a number of advanced or referral* services.

Advanced anaesthesia

Dalya holds an RCVS certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia and several of our nurses have undergone advanced anaesthesia training as well. All our patients are thoroughly assessed pre-operatively, receive individualised anaesthesia protocols, and are closely monitored throughout anaesthesia until fully recovered. Every anaesthesia station has a dedicated multiparameter monitor, which continuously checks the patient’s blood pressure, ECG, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, heart rate, respiration rate and temperature. A circulating warm air blanket is used for temperature control. We use a range of intravenous fluids to maintain blood pressure.

Advanced pain management

We use a variety of local anaesthesia techniques to reduce anaesthetic requirements and provide pain relief, including epidurals and nerve blocks. We also run multimodal pain clinics, utilising a combination of modalities such as medication, physical therapy, acupuncture, laser treatment, TENS, therapeutic ultrasound, massage and stretching, joint injections, and regenerative medicine (including platelet rich plasma and stem cells). Dalya is our pain management guru – she holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Pain Management, is trained in acupuncture, and is currently working on the Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner qualification.

More complex soft tissue surgery

Alongside the more routine spays, neuters and lump removals, we can also perform more complex surgeries such as:

  • thyroidectomies
  • total ear canal ablations (TECA)
  • splenectomies
  • cystotomies
  • intestinal resections
  • gastric torsions

Advanced orthopaedic surgery

Andy Morris is our visiting surgeon, and he comes to us to perform orthopaedic surgeries as needed. Andy is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery, and absolutely excellent.

Referral exotic pet service

Stan and Esme, our two exotic vets, head up the Exotic Pet services at Magnolia House. Stan holds a post-graduate certificate in Exotic Animal Practice, and Esme is working towards the same having completed an internship year at Highcroft Exotic Referrals. Stan and Esme will see pretty much any species – small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, primates…

We can undertake most chemotherapy protocols, and most often utilise chemotherapy to treat lymphoma and mast cell tumours.

Blood transfusions

We can carry out both canine and feline blood transfusions, and are always on the look out for potential blood donors – if you think you’d like your pet to be considered as a blood donor and would like to find out more, please contact Dalya at the clinic.

Regenerative medicine

We routinely carry out platelet rich plasma and stem cell treatments for joint problems/arthritis and you can find out more here.

Rehabilitation is key to helping our arthritic and/or injured pets be better able to participate in their daily activities, to maintain more normal movement patterns and decrease risk of injury, and to plain have fun! You can find out more about our rehabilitation services here.

*Please note that while our vets are very skilled and knowledgeable, they are not specialists. A veterinary specialist is an RCVS protected term, and designates a person who has completed significant further training including a residency, has passed specialty examinations, and has published widely in their specialist subject.
