Dalya Livy

Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine

Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Anaesthesia

I am a transplanted Australian, and graduated from University of Sydney in 2001. I completed an internship at a specialist hospital in Sydney and continued to work in their emergency/critical care department until deciding to don a backpack and see the world, arriving in the UK in 2004. Shortly thereafter I met Stan and the rest, as they say, is history!

Following a 6 month locum in Birmingham and some time working with a cat charity in Greece, I spent the following 9 years working for 2 large practices within the Greater London area. My particular passion is improving the quality of life for our elderly patients, as it combines my two areas of special interest - complicated internal medicine problems and pain management.

I hold Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Small Animal Medicine, and a Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, one of only 4 vets in the country to hold both qualifications. I also hold a Master's degree in Veterinary Studies (Small Animal Medicine and Surgery), a Postgraduate Diploma in Pain Management, and have completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) course in acupuncture. I have been awarded Advanced Practitioner Status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for both Small Animal Medicine and Veterinary Anaesthesia, and am the only vet in 2015 to hold both statuses. I currently as of Jan 2017 also run the pain clinics at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists in Ringwood.

Outside of work, I'm kept busy playing Chief Entertainer and Crowd Controller to our 3 little boys! I also love baking (and avidly following The Great British Bake Off!) and running (very slowly), and once upon a time was a figure skater.

I qualified from the Royal 'Dick' School of Veterinary Studies Edinburgh in 2002. Working initially on the West Coast of Scotland, followed by a spell locuming and working nights in a busy emergency clinic before spending the last 8 years at a bustling West London practice and building up a 40% exotics caseload. You can find exotics articles here and here. I have recently been awarded a Certificate in Exotic Animal practice.

In addition to vetting, I'm a former Commonwealth rower (Bronze medal 2006) and 4 times National Champion, as well as having coached for the English National rowing team in 2013.

My father was born and grew up in Christchurch with the family business The Grove Garage run by my grandfather, grandmother and latterly my uncle Tony Livy and I spent many summers in the area and at Bournemouth beach.
